Tradegy brings out the best and worst in people

Sorry for the unimaginative title, but this just shows what I want to talk about.

A few days ago, my country suffered a very tragic event. Having recently encountered hardship from the onslaught of the storm Gener, the country wasn't able to prepare for the might of the rains brought about by the monsoon winds. There was already flooding from the storm, it didn't help that the monsoon winds brought about more problems to the country. A lot of people were displaced and lost their possessions and several people lost their lives. This event brought about the "bayanihan" spirit of the Filipinos. It's nice to see people helping each other out in this time of need. However, this also brought about the worst in people.

Some people didn't want to leave their houses for fear that their homes will be ransacked. How can people still steal in this tragic time? I know they're in need, but the people they're stealing from is already in too deep. Also, since the more privileged people will be the ones who will help out those in need, some people think wrongly of their act of kindness. Given that some may do it for pride or fame (maybe some politicians out there and some celebrities), majority of those helping do it for the sake of helping out. They're not asking for anything in return. Why can't some people just leave it at that? This is already a sad moment, we don't need all those critiques to plague the already somber mood. Lastly, I just hate how some people blame this tragedy for some irrelevant issue such as the RH bill and the Noah's Ark thing. Seriously. Come on. This is not the wrath of God. If you read the bible, God promised to never do that again. The RH bill issue pushing one step forward had nothing to do with it. This is the wrath of nature. This is the effect of years and years of abuse by people, lack of discipline and poor urban planning. This just makes me distraught. Don't also blame it on the government. It's not their faulty. Well, it's not entirely their fault. It's also our fault. Since we contributed to this catastrophe, we should be the ones who steps forward to do something. We should be the ones who are starting the change we want to see. Because it was our fault. Come on. Let's just stop all this nonsense.

I rest at that.
