Like a mother's love: Mama Lou's Italian Kitchen

There's one restaurant down south that I've been meaning to visit. After years of waiting, the time has come!

Mama Lou's is an Italian restaurant that offers home-style cooked meals. It started out in a literal home in Las Piñas city. Now, it has several branches. I got to visit their Evia Lifestyle Mall branch in Daang Hari, Las Piñas city. I saw that they also have a Nuvali branch.

I feel in love with the Evia branch. Mama Lou's is known for its homey feel so I was happy that this branch retained the atmosphere. The restaurant greets you with its brightly lit yet rustic dining area. The lower area is perfect for families. The upper dining area has a more romantic feel to it perfect for couples.

We decided to order 2 appetizers, 1 large pizza, and 2 pasta dishes. They serve you with complementary bread and 2 dips while you wait for your order.

Fried calamari, P225.00

Baked Italian meatballs, P195.00

We started our dinner with impressive appetizers. The fried calamari was served with malt vinegar that cut through the greasiness. The squid is very succulent and the batter to squid ratio is perfect. It was also well seasoned. The baked italian meatball was also well loved. Juicy meatballs, mozzarella, and tangy marinara sauce complemented each ingredient well. We fell in love with the marinara sauce that we dipped the bread in the remaining sauce. We wanted to order more!

Mama Lou's Special 14", P450.00

We ordered the large size Mama Lou's Special. I was pretty shocked that my siblings chose this because the pizza has fruit in it. The pizza is like  revamped margherita pizza. It has prosciutto, mango, arugula, and balsamic vinegar sauce. It is also served with a side of alfalfa sprouts. We truly loved it! The saltiness of the prosciutto, the sweetness from the mango, the savoriness from the cheese and sauce, the tanginess from the balsamic vinegar, and the earthiness from the greens were dancing in our mouths like a party. I truly recommend this dish.

Gnocchi, P275.00

Ravioli spinaci, P350.00

For our pasta dishes, we decided to chose the ones we don't get to make at home. Coincidentally, they happen to both have bleu cheese sauce. We were mesmerized yet again by the dishes we had. The gnocchi (a pasta made from potatoes) were like soft pillows. There's not much complex flavor in the gnocchi itself so the sauce gave it depth. The ravioli that was stuffed with spinach, mushroom, and ricotta cheese was very rich and flavorful. I would have preferred a tomato-based sauce for it.

We truly had a wonderful experience at Mama Lou's. They have friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere that is perfect for a chill night off. They have a wide selection of appetizer, pizza, pasta, and main dishes that I still want to try. Our family rarely choose Italian restaurants when we go out. Given how much we loved this place, I can confidently say that we have found a new favorite restaurant! I give Mama Lou's a 9.5 out of 10. I surely look forward to eating here again! Mama Lou's make me so proud that I'm a Southie! You don't need to go far to have tasty and affordable food!
